Also known as ahimsa, or cruelty-free silk, peace silk is made without killing the silkworm in the process of extracting the filament. The moth emerges from the cocoon naturally, which results in the filament being broken into smaller pieces.
Our silk supply chain organically produces cruelty-free silk made by artisans in India who are paid a fair wage. No pesticides or insecticides are used on the trees and they use a non-violent harvesting method for the cocoons.
In addition to these practices, the farm have implemented a GOTS approved degumming method, which is a process of removing sericin from silk yarn to improve the sheen, color and texture, and use minimal water in a closed loop water system.
